Hallelujah Chorus

I thought that this “Random Act Of Culture” performed by the Philadelphia Opera at Macy’s was awesome! I absolutely love the message of Handel’s Messiah and the “Hallelujah Chorus” is my favorite part! (Thanks Neil!)

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ, and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, forever and ever,

King of kings, and Lord of lords,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
And Lord of lords,
And He shall reign,
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings, forever and ever,
And Lord of lords,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!

I Need You!

Several years ago, there was a young woman who was struggling on many different levels. She found out she was pregnant for the first time but few days later she miscarried. She and her husband worked long stressful hours on different shifts. They worked, slept, ate, socialized, etc. at different times. They eventually became like room mates who hardly ever saw each other. As her life was falling apart; she sank into a depression. She was good at hiding it though. She smiled in public and cried when she was alone. Her heart was breaking and no one seemed to notice or care. One day as she was driving to work; she listened to a song she had never heard before on the radio. Tears poured from her eyes as the words echoed in her soul. When she was able to track down the name of the song; she bought the cd that it was on. She copied the lyrics into her journal and the song became a prayer for her. Throughout the years the song reminded her of her sin and faults but also about God’s forgiveness and grace.

This morning, the woman sang the song in church with one of her close friends. As only God can do; He matched the song perfectly with the pastor’s sermon on Prayer. She barely made it through the song without crying because of how personal it was to her. Later during the alter call; she knelt and whispered the lyrics to God. She thanked him for all He has done over the years to bring her closer to Him. She squeezed her husband’s hand as the pastor prayed over the marriages and families in the church. She was grateful that God kept them together through all the trials they had faced.

Tonight, she tucked her girls in bed. With tears in her eyes, she prayed asking God to make her a better wife for her husband and better mother for her children. And above all, she thanked Him for continually being her Comfort and Strength.

I Need You–By: The Swift

My heart is restless in me
My wings are all worn out
I’m walking in the wilderness
And I cannot get out

I need You, oh I need You
Blessed savior come
I need You, oh I need You
Fill the every longing of my soul

Oh how I need You Lord
I need Your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today

And my bed is soaked with sadness
My sadness has no end
A downward spiral of despair
That I keep falling in

I need You, oh I need You
To You my soul shall fly
I need You, oh I need You
Yahweh how I love you more than life

Oh how I need You Lord
I need Your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today

Your silence is like death to me
So won’t You hear my desperate plea

Today my soul is soaring
Way over mountains high
Though I can see the valleys
They are all just passing by
Its not that I am stronger
Look at my feeble wings
But I’ve been lifted higher
Yahweh’s lifted me in His own strength

Oh how I love You Lord
I love your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The God who always will endure
Now I will celebrate
For all the thousand ways
That you have shown me grace
And made my heart in grace to stay

You made my heart in grace to stay
Lord, make my heart in grace to stay

I need You, oh I need You

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31

Make A Joyful Noise!

One of my favorite things to do is sing! I sing with our church’s worship team, I sing at home, and I sing in the car.  The perfectionist in me wants to make sure that I am singing well. I often criticize myself to an extreme and worry about how I sound to others. When I practice on my own time; I am even more critical. I will start over, repeatedly, until I get a verse or chorus right. I am sure it drives my children crazy when they have listen to the same song over and over during car rides.

Recently, I was really getting down on myself. I was convincing myself that I was singing horribly because of my lack of music training and nervousness when singing in front of people. I e-mailed a good friend humbly asking for encouragement. I would like to share some of what she wrote back…

“Get that Devil out of your thought closet! That was the first thing that crossed my mind so I believe that is what God is trying to say to you! You don’t have to have a musical background to praise God on a worship team… “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!” You keep singing because you are just fine! Be nicer to yourself and remember this is for God and he just loves to hear you! The Congregation has nothing to do with the decision. As for you saying you mess up don’t worry! We all do it, music history or not. It is intimidating singing/playing/talking in front of people! Let it go and relax. Do it for God! Close your eyes it will be just fine.”

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,

and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.” Psalm 95:1-3 (KJV)

Over the past several years I have experienced deep sorrows and hurts in my life. During those times the only thing that I could do was seek comfort from my Father in heaven. There are many times when I don’t have the words to pray; so I just sing! I think of a song that says exactly what I am thinking and sing it as my prayer to God. Looking back; I have noticed that when I am pouring my heart out to God that I am too humbled to think about how I sound. God doesn’t care about how perfect I am. What He cares about is my heart. And when we get back to the heart of worship; it’s all about God not me.

Heart Of Worship–Matt Redman

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart

I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I’ll bring You more than just a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

Its all about you
Jesus
