I Need You!

Several years ago, there was a young woman who was struggling on many different levels. She found out she was pregnant for the first time but few days later she miscarried. She and her husband worked long stressful hours on different shifts. They worked, slept, ate, socialized, etc. at different times. They eventually became like room mates who hardly ever saw each other. As her life was falling apart; she sank into a depression. She was good at hiding it though. She smiled in public and cried when she was alone. Her heart was breaking and no one seemed to notice or care. One day as she was driving to work; she listened to a song she had never heard before on the radio. Tears poured from her eyes as the words echoed in her soul. When she was able to track down the name of the song; she bought the cd that it was on. She copied the lyrics into her journal and the song became a prayer for her. Throughout the years the song reminded her of her sin and faults but also about God’s forgiveness and grace.

This morning, the woman sang the song in church with one of her close friends. As only God can do; He matched the song perfectly with the pastor’s sermon on Prayer. She barely made it through the song without crying because of how personal it was to her. Later during the alter call; she knelt and whispered the lyrics to God. She thanked him for all He has done over the years to bring her closer to Him. She squeezed her husband’s hand as the pastor prayed over the marriages and families in the church. She was grateful that God kept them together through all the trials they had faced.

Tonight, she tucked her girls in bed. With tears in her eyes, she prayed asking God to make her a better wife for her husband and better mother for her children. And above all, she thanked Him for continually being her Comfort and Strength.

I Need You–By: The Swift

My heart is restless in me
My wings are all worn out
I’m walking in the wilderness
And I cannot get out

I need You, oh I need You
Blessed savior come
I need You, oh I need You
Fill the every longing of my soul

Oh how I need You Lord
I need Your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today

And my bed is soaked with sadness
My sadness has no end
A downward spiral of despair
That I keep falling in

I need You, oh I need You
To You my soul shall fly
I need You, oh I need You
Yahweh how I love you more than life

Oh how I need You Lord
I need Your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The sin that I afford
I need to weep and pray
For all the thousand ways
That I have failed You just today

Your silence is like death to me
So won’t You hear my desperate plea

Today my soul is soaring
Way over mountains high
Though I can see the valleys
They are all just passing by
Its not that I am stronger
Look at my feeble wings
But I’ve been lifted higher
Yahweh’s lifted me in His own strength

Oh how I love You Lord
I love your perfect word
With tearful eyes I see
The God who always will endure
Now I will celebrate
For all the thousand ways
That you have shown me grace
And made my heart in grace to stay

You made my heart in grace to stay
Lord, make my heart in grace to stay

I need You, oh I need You

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31

Is Your Soul Well?

More often then not we hear bad things on the news. It is nice to hear a touching news story every once in awhile. If you are able to; watch this short clip…

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/american-heart-neighbors-morgan-mill-texas/story?id=10323278

This woman and her family experienced a tragedy which changed their lives forever in a blink of an eye. Brandi has amazing strength that I only hope that I would have in her situation. Not only does she have faith that she and her family will be ok; but she also expresses concern for the man who randomly picked her as his victim.

At the end of the clip; words from Brandi’s favorite hymn are quoted. “It Is Well With My Soulhappens to be my favorite hymn as well.

This song was written by Horatio G. Spafford but has been sung in many churches and recorded by many artists. In 1873, Spafford sent his wife and four daughters (his son had died a few years before) to England and he was going to follow them soon after. When their ship collided with another ship and sunk; all four of his daughters died. His wife miraculously survived. After hearing the news; Spafford immediately got on a ship to meet his wife. At some point during the voyage; the captain called him to the bridge and told him that they were passing over where his daughter’s ship had wrecked. Horatio wrote “It Is Well With My Soul” when he went back to his cabin. (To read a more details see here.)

The lyrics to this song have brought me comfort many, many times. They are a reminder that we should be looking toward heaven even when things here on earth go horribly wrong. Jesus will bring you comfort if you lean on him during your times of sorrow.

“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:11

“It Is Well With My Soul” Sung by: 4 Him

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

My Comfort!

Last week I mentioned that in the past several years I have dealt with extreme sorrows and hurts in my life. During one of those times, my step-mom sent me a link to a song that made me cry. It was if God was speaking directly to me in order to comfort me in that moment. The song was called By Your Side by: Tenth Avenue North. When we unexpectedly went back to the US last summer; we bought the Tenth Avenue North CD. It quickly became a favorite (for both my husband and I) because many of the songs seemed to apply to our situations or give us the comfort we so desperately needed.

“Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains!

For the LORD comforts his people

and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” Isaiah 49:13

It is good to know that the Lord comforts his children! I may not always feel His presence but I know that He is always there. I know that He cares for me even in the depths of sorrow. Praise God!

By Your Side–Tenth Avenue North

Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don’t turn away

Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching as if I’m not enough
To where will you go child
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run

And I’ll be by your side
Wherever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don’t fight
These hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Look at these hands and my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world’s sin
So I could carry you in
And give you life
I want to give you life

(Chorus 2x)

Cause I, I love you
I want you to know
That I, I love you
I’ll never let you go

(Chorus 2x)
