One Piece Of A… Quilt?

I started piecing together a quilt top today. I am using Japanese inspired fabric so that I have something that reminds me of Okinawa when we move back to the states. As I was sewing, humming a praise song, and listening to 3 children (I am watching a friend’s son overnight); I was thinking about how many squares it would take to make the size quilt that I want to make. Generally, I precut all of my squares then piece them together in whatever pattern comes to mind as I sew. A quilt needs every piece in order to become beautiful; just as we need every piece of our lives. Each person’s life is different but we all have our ups and downs, successes and failures, our good and our bad. Each part is like a piece of a quilt, or a puzzle, etc. Each piece makes us who we are and who we become in the future. It is nice to know that when God finishes putting all of the pieces of my life together; I will be beautiful! Likewise, each of us is apart of the body of Christ. My life is just one part of the story.

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ…Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 & 27

  1. Looks beautiful. I will have to show my wife. She loves wonderful quilts, and I’m sure that some day she will start making them when she gets more time.

    • What I do is very basic since I taught myself how to “quilt.” This one is no where near done; but when I finish I’ll post another pic 🙂

  2. Great idea!!! So fun to have physical reminders of the places we’ve been blessed to live. Our household goods get here on Wednesday and I can’t wait to unpack some of the things I bought for just that purpose!
