Until several weeks ago; I had never heard Steven Curtis Chapman’s song “Cinderella.” Our church worship leader sang it as a special on Father’s Day and I am pretty sure he had all of the dad’s and mom’s with girls tearing up. It didn’t help that he kept looking down at his little girl as he sang the words to the song.
Steven Curtis Chapman wrote the song as a tribute to his oldest daughter (Emily) who had grown up. You can read the full story here. In an unfortunate turn of events; this song took on a new meaning when his youngest adopted daughter (Maria) was tragically killed in an accident (see here for that story).
May I never forget that each moment with my children is precious. If you have daughters; grab a tissue before clicking on the video link.
Cinderella–by: Steven Curtis Chapman
She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I’m sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders
It’s been a long day
And there’s still work to do
She’s pulling at me
Saying “Dad, I need you
There’s a ball at the castle
And I’ve been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?”
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oooooh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t wanna miss even one song
‘Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone…
She says he’s a nice guy and I’d be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of her dress
She says, “Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?”
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ooh-oh ooh-oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t want to miss even one song
‘Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone
She will be gone
Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, “Dad, the wedding’s still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?”
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
‘Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ooh-oh ooh-oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don’t want to miss even one song
‘Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she’ll be gone

Cinderella- The Love of a Daddy and His Princess with CD
By Steven Curtis Chapman / Thomas Nelson |
*****
God has blessed me with two beautiful girls. Here are my Cinderella’s and their Daddy:
This was taken several months ago before Audrey had teeth. Shane kept surprising her with tickles so she was bracing herself.
This was taken a few days ago. Shane and Kendal were up late watching the World Cup.

Beautiful pictures! You are blessed with a great family.
That song is special to me as well. To be honest, it sounded a little sappy when I first heard it so I never listened to it all the way through. Then my oldest daughter was cast as Cinderella in a ballet and they asked me to play her dad in the first scene. It was right before she graduated, so I was literally able to “dance with Cinderella” while she was still in my arms. God is good!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing 🙂
