Would You Choose Life Or Death?

I am always touched when I hear about or read about Christians being persecuted or martyred for their faith. I have a book written by Voice Of The Martyrs called “Extreme Devotion”. Each day it tells a different story. I have often wondered if that type of situation ever came if I would be able to make the right decision. I would like to say that I would but I can think of a few things that would probably hold me back… my children being two of them. It seems to me that Christians who live in countries where Christianity is not accepted by the people and/or the government tend to have a stronger relationship with God. Maybe it is because their faith is tested more regularly?

I think that Christians in America tend to get complacent in their Christianity. We get comfortable with our lives and stay so busy that we go all day or all week without thinking about our walk with God. I know that not everyone is like that but there are times that I have done it. Over the past 6 months or so; I have really tried to focus on what is important… my relationships with God, my husband, and my children. I am not saying that it is wrong to be busy but when your life hits rock bottom (like mine did last summer); you realize that something has got to give. I still stay somewhat busy but I did cut several things out of my life in order to make more time for God and my family.

Our world is constantly changing. Someday we may be the ones who are persecuted. Now is the time to build our faith foundation; now is the time to grow in Christ! I am constantly encouraged by those who have already faced or are currently facing the challenge. I count it a privilege to support them through prayer and sometimes financially. [You can order a persecution prayer map from the VOM website below.]

Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners,

and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”

Hebrews 13:3

I am thankful that I have never been in the situation where I have to choose between life denying Christ or death proclaiming Christ. But if that time comes; I pray that God will give me the courage to stand for Him!

  1. I have willfully run my life into a wall many times. I know how dark it is in the pit, and I’m sorry you experienced that, as well. But I’m so happy to hear of your progress over the last 6 months. Focusing in quietness is the key; there must be regular times of “getting away to a lonely place”.

    • I think that is why blogging has been so therapeutic for me. It gives me some time to reflect on my life and what God wants for me on a daily basis. It is like my own devotional time.
