How To Turn Outdated Catalogs Into Gift Bags

Have you ever wondered what to do with the stack of outdated business catalogs that you have accumulated? You do not want to throw them away because they cost you money, most of the information is still valid, and you are sure you can use them somehow. Then, you end up ordering the updated catalogs and never give your old ones a second glance… until you decide to bite the bullet and trash them.

Over the years of having a direct sales business as a Norwex Independent Sales Consultant, I have heard of several good ideas on what to do with the outdated catalogs. For example, you can put a sticker on the front with contact information and stating that new catalogs are available. Then, you can give them out to customers or put them on magazine tables in waiting rooms (with permission). However, the best idea I have heard of so far is making them into gift bags. This saves you money by not having to buy bags and by allowing you to use the catalogs instead of trashing them. The bags advertise your business. The bags are perfect for carrying product you are giving away (door prizes, host gifts, etc.). You could even use them as a replacement for your host envelopes.

There are various videos on YouTube showing how to make gift bags using wrapping paper. I made my catalog gift bag after watching several of those videos and experimenting. Here are some instructions and photos of how I make them.

  • Take your catalog apart by removing the staples holding it together. Keep the pages intact so it is two connected pages.

  • Fold half of the page to just over the center fold.

  • Then, fold the other half to just over the center. Tape together. 16143045_10211943410249737_2356405967451893669_n

To create the base:

  • Fold up the bottom. Then, fold in the corners. (Like you would do if wrapping a gift with wrapping paper).

  • Fold the sides of the base together. Overlap slightly.

  • Tape the base where all folds meet. This is essential to make sure the base is secure.

  • Open up the bag and smooth out any creases the best that you can.

To create the handles:

  • Cut the two connected pages in half you you have two separate pages.

  • Then fold the page in half and cut so you have two halves.

  • Roll each of the halves into strips about 1 inch wide (or whatever your preference). Make sure you have good creases as you roll so that your handle are flat not round.

  • Secure rolled strips with tape.

  • Attach strips to the inside of the bag on both sides. You can use tape but I prefer staples.

Filling the bag:

  • Choose what you want to put into the bag! Do not forget your product information, host pamphlet, and/or whatever is applicable for the occasion!

  • Fill the bag! If you want a closed bag, skip making the handles and just fold down the bag and tape shut. 16002990_10211943406289638_7875223174700228436_n

The size of the bag is going to depend on the size of your catalog. If it is too small, you can tape pages together at the beginning to create the size that you need. Also, these bags are not going to hold a lot of weight so keep that in mind when filling them.

How do you use your outdated business catalogs? Comment below! I would love to hear your ideas!

The Shack

In light of the new movie adaptation of The Shack, I thought I would reblog my review of the book. I have no plans to watch the movie because of how strongly I feel about the bad and misleading theology the book presents. I would consider watching it if someone asked me to give my opinion of it but I highly doubt the movie would make significant enough changes from the book to change my opinion of it. If you choose to watch the movie and/or read the book, I encourage you to do so with caution and with careful consideration and comparison to scripture. Do not let the emotional story cloud your discernment.

Heart Treasures

Here is my “review” of the book, “The Shack.” I wrote this and e-mailed it to all of my friends in August 2008 after reading “The Shack” for my church’s book club. Since the book is still making its rounds in the Christian community and since it came up in conversation in the comments section of another blog; I thought that sharing this would be relevant.

I recently read a popular book called “The Shack” by William P. (Paul) Young. I am giving you my opinion of this book now because I can find a ton more positive reviews about this book than negative. Especially within the Christian community; most of the reviews/comments I have read give mostly praise and “how this book changed my life” perspectives. Personally, for a book that many people consider as Christian Fiction; I find this book to be mostly unbiblical and very…

Why I Am Pro-Life…

Due to all of the current political situations, I thought it would be a good time to update this article…originally posted in 2014

Heart Treasures

I have always been raised with an anti-abortion outlook because of being raised in a Christian family.

However, just because I was raised a Christian doesn’t mean I actually was a Christian. I had to choose to have a relationship and believe in Jesus as my God. And although I made that decision at a young age, I continually study God’s Word and I love researching culture, history, archeology, and science that affirms my faith.

In the same way, when it comes to abortion, I have researched from a medical perspective and from a personal experience perspective. I have several friends who have had abortions and they either regret their decision and are pro-life or they do not regret their decision and are pro-choice. I have had many debates with the friends who are pro-choice but even though we disagree, we still have great friendships.

Due to a recent conversation…

How To Be A Noble Woman

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Presidential Inauguration 2017

I am sure that my post today will be one of many about the inauguration. To be honest, I do not expect anyone to read this post other than my loyal followers. Still, I wanted to share my thoughts.

Donald And Melania Trump Arrive At White House Ahead Of Inauguration

(Photo found on Google Images/Fox News)

Here are some of my random observations about today’s ceremony:

Melania Trump and Michelle Obama were absolutely beautiful.

Hillary Clinton looked like she was not happy to be there. The first time I noticed that her smile seemed genuine was when Michelle Obama walked out.

President Bush and Laura Bush looked genuinely happy to be there.

Mike Pence seemed very humbled as he took his oath. I could hear the conviction in his voice as he spoke. He meant every word that he said.

President Obama was singing along with the Morman Tabernacle Choir as they sang “America the Beautiful.”

President Trump’s family were very proud of him as he took his oath.

No matter what side of politics we are on, there is no doubt that this is a historical day!

Although I was quiet on my blog when it came to the election campaigns, I was very vocal about my opinions on my personal Facebook page. If you know me at all, then you know that I have very conservative views. I am a registered Republican in the state of Delaware (home of Vice President Joe Biden). The first election that I was eligible to vote was in 2000. I have voted by absentee ballot in the last four elections because my husband is active duty military. I view voting as a privilege and a right as an American. I am truly blessed to live in a country where the people can take part in electing their government.

From the very beginning of this election season, I have not understood the support that both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were able to sustain. It baffles me how either one of them made it as far as they did in the election process. Although Clinton is a woman, she does not at all represent me as a woman. Her policies and beliefs most often go against everything I stand for. Although Trump was the Republican nominee, he does not represent me as a Republican. His speeches and actions portrayed a man who also went against what I stand for. As such, I did not vote for either Clinton or Trump in November’s election. I voted for another candidate who better represented me. Still, I respect the election process and will respect Trump for the position that he holds even when I disagree with him.

If you are hoping that Trump fails, or even worse that he is assassinated, then YOU are what is wrong with America. We should be praying/hoping that our country stays strong, that we become more unified, that Trump becomes a leader fit for the office he was voted into. I will pray for him just like I have been doing since President Obama has been in office and President GW Bush before him. As a kid, I remember praying for President Bush and President Clinton. It doesn’t matter that you disagree, what matters is that America continues to be a great country. If Trump fails, we all fail. If Trump (or any other president) is assassinated, we as a nation look weak.

I do not know what the future of our country holds. We are entering this new presidency as a very divided nation. We the people need to unify and work towards the healing of America. It starts in our homes. We need to teach our children to love and respect others. Whether we agree or not, whether we look the same or not, whether we make the same amount of money or not, whether we practice the same religion or not: We Are Americans!

Erin Condren Notebooks

I jumped on the Erin Condren bandwagon last year after several friends raved about their planners. I browsed through several of them and spent a lot of time on the EC website before finally deciding to take the plunge!

I have already reviewed the Erin Condren LifePlanner and Teacher Lesson Planner. More recently I purchased two Erin Condren Notebooks. I use both of them for different purposes. The base price for a notebook is $20.00.

You choose your cover design and coil color. There are so many covers to choose from and they all are removable so that you can change them out whenever you want! Several of them have color variations so you can pick your favorite color scheme. Seasonal covers are often added to the collection various times of year. All of them have the option of personalizing with name or other information. The covers that have metallic designs are an additional $5.00. As always, the covers are laminated so that wet erase markers can be used on them. There are 4 coil colors to choose from. I have always picked the platinum coil because it matches the most covers if I decide to change my cover. Several of my friends have said that their colored coils started chipping pretty quickly. The gold, black, and rose coils are an additional $10.00.

You choose size: 7 x 9 inches or 8.5 x 11 inches for an additional $5.00. Then you choose layout: Classic Lined (neutral), Productivity (colorful), or Dot Grid (colorful).

One of my notebooks I am using for sermon notes and prayer requests (size: 7 x 9 inches). customized my cover with my name and favorite scripture reference:

And I chose the classic lined layout:

The other notebook I am trying to be more creative with (size: 8.5 x 11 inches). I am using it for journaling, lists, plans, coloring, scrapbooking, etc. This is the first time I have chosen a cover with the metallic look (blue and platinum) and I absolutely love it! This is by far my favorite cover that I have purchased so far! I chose the dot grid layout for this notebook. The photos below will show the various ways I have utilized some of the pages.

Blog Post Ideas/Checklist:

I use an assortment of Erin Condren stickers, The Happy Planner stickers (Hobby Lobby), and the washi tape that I have picked up in various stores like Hobby Lobby or Target. Erin Condren has several sticker books ($15.00) and sticker pages ($3.00-$10.00) to choose from.

So far I love my notebooks! The paper is thick like it is in the planners. The customizable covers and sticker assortments available make notebooking fun whatever purpose you are using them for!

I understand that the purchasing an Erin Condren planner or notebook is an investment. It is somewhat costly but I believe that the quality is worth it (more so for the planners vs the notebooks). I most likely will not be purchasing another notebook until I runout of paper in the ones that I have. Even then, I would only purchase them if there was a significant sale/discount on them. I still really like them though!

If you are interested in trying an Erin Condren planner, you can use my referral code to get $10.00 off your first purchase. By doing so, you help me earn credit towards my Erin Condren purchases. After you sign up, you will get your own referral link to share with your friends! Click the following link:

It is also important to note that there is a long processing time for orders. When you browse the website, there are expected ship dates listed but they are subject to change. When you pay for expedited shipping, you are paying for the actual shipping time not the processing time. So do not expect to receive your order within the same week even if you pay extra for shipping. Keeping all this in mind, I place my orders a month or so in advance of when I actually need to start using them, especially when it comes to ordering anything that is personalized.
